Einrichten der Begleit-App für den Remotek-Controller

This app work in the background on Android devices and senses what keys you press on the controller and adapts the controller to a number of supported apps. As soon as you have installed it and activated the accessibility services, it will work with the controller in Profile 1.

The app is in the first beta version, so be patient and feedback is very welcome.

To allow for the controller to work, you must enable Remotek Accessibility service on the main page of the app. It will open your phone settings. Go to sub menu Installed Apps, and click on Remotek. Set that to on.

Don´t forget to turn of the other accessibility services you have been using to switch between apps until now. The remotek app will do this instead.

You must set the remote in Profile 1 by click hold arrow up one or two times until it blinks green one time. More on profiles below.

For supported map apps, you

  • Pan the map with the arrow buttons, zoom with the plus and minus buttons

  • Go to your current position by double click the arrow left button

  • For some apps that starts with a different tab than the map tab, double click on the arrow down button will take you to the map tab.

Shortcuts:

  • Double click arrow right will cycle through apps of your preference. Pick apps from the Cycling through apps list.

  • Double click arrow up will at this stage cycle between google maps and Tools for Heros(goPro control), if you have them installed.

Although not absolutely mandatory, we recommend that you update your old controller firmware before you start using the app. To check if you need to upgrade, go to the home screen of your phone, set the controller in Profile 1 and click the arrow buttons. If it moves one tile on each click, you´re all good. If it moves three tiles it has got the old firmware and you should ugrade.
The fw update feature will be included in our app upon final release, but for now you can do it with the oem app from Nordic semiconductors. Follow this link and come back here when done:

Firmware update manual.

The app is only for the Android system. iOS will not let their system be manipulated like this, but the remote will function just like it always has done.

Apps supported in Profile 1. Most are listed as supported in the app, but not all, some may have been added after this manual was written and may not be included. Do you miss an app, let us know:

---------------------------------------------

For new owners of the Remotek controller, here´s in depth instructions for install and use.

Mounting the controller is fairly straight forward. Just choose to mount the bracket straight on the handlebar or angled over the clutch mount on one or two bikes. Slide the controller in from the top of the mount, and remember to secure the controller with the torx set screw.

 Connect the controller

  • Activate the controller by pressing any button.

  • Connect to the RT One XXX _Remotek One, where XXX is the number on the back of the controller

  • The phone believes the remote is an external keyboard and when connected it will not automatically show the onscreen keyboard when you are in a text input field. To enable this go to System > languages and input > Physical Keyboard > Use on-screen keyboard.
The location of the setting might vary from phone to phone. You can search «physical keyboard» in the settings on most phones to find it.

Profiles

The remote comes with four profiles which you switch between with a special button combination, a click hold on a particular button. Click hold means that you do a normal click (press and immediatley release) and then immediately press the button back in and hold it for a second or two until it blinks up to four times depending on the profile your change to. Some have reported they need to exercice to get this right. So take your time. Once it works, you don´t think about it anymore.

Each profile sends four different sets of keys. The Remotek app adapts the keys on the remote only when in Profile 1. If you are only using apps in the supported app list, you don´t have to use the other profiles, and the controller will automatically adapt to the app which is active, either if you open it on the screen or with shortcuts on the controller. Important, you can get back to profile 1 from any profile with a click hold on arrow up.

  • Profile 1 is the main profile, sending arrow, plus and minus keys as seen on the remote, and by double click the arrow buttons, it sends key strokes that are mapped to the special functions listed above. Click hold arrow up to cycle between profile 1 and 2

  • Profile 2 is the media profile, where the buttons sends media keys and brightness up and down keys. Nice to use to control Spotify/radio or dedicated roadbook apps.
You can lock/unlock the controller in this mode by holding Arrow Left and Right in at the same time. A red blink when you try to change profile tells you the controller is locked.

  • Profile 3 is the DMD2 profile, a dashboard app specifically aimed at adventure motorcyclists. Check out DMD2 in the Play Store or in their Facebook pages. Click hold arrow down to get here.
You can lock/unlock the controller in this mode by holding Arrow Left and Right in at the same time. A red blink when you try to change profile tells you the controller is locked.

  • Profile 4 has changed to be a Garmin Tread profile, pan pan, zoom and go to current position as you would in Profile 1.

Remotek Rally

Soon back in stock.

Mount the Toggle Addon to transform it into a Remotek Rally.

Handle the pcb with care. Rubber gloves is preferable, avoid static shock.

Remove the bottom lid of the Remotek One (two torx screws) like you will do when replacing the battery.

Plug the toggle cable in the grey socket on the back of the pcb. The red marking on the plug should face upwards (visible) when the pcb is turned upside down and you enter it into the socket. Handle with care but ensure that the plug is well seated in the socket. If you have to remove it, pry very gentle on each side bit by bit until it comes loose.

Route the cable in a bend and make sure it doesn´t pinch anywhere when you put the two torx screws back in through the two holes in the toggle casing.

Mount it on the bike with the attached rubber strip between the controller and the handlebar.

DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the unbraco lock bolt. No reason too. Leave it so that is is possible to twist the controller on the handlebar, but not so much that it twists when you push the buttons.

In the bottom of this manual you can see the button layout on both the Remotek One and the Remotek Rally, which is the One with the added toggle switch. The difference is that when you connect the toggle and install the Rally firmware version, then in

  • Profile 1, the plus and minus functionality is moved to the toggle, while the original plus and minus physical buttons becomes enter and escape( double click minus key), and also simply sends a w on single click minus.

  • Profile 2, volume is moved to the toggle, back and forward is moved to the +/- buttons and arrow left and right is set to play and pause. This means that in Piste roadbook you can set these three button sets to scroll and adjust both tens and hundreds.

  • Profile 3, in DMD2 mode, the buttons do the same as before, and the toggle sends F6 and F7, which can be mapped inside DMD2 to for example scroll roadbook or zoom map.

  • Profile 4 the Garmin Tread profile

Physically, once you install the toggle on the original Remotek One by removing the bottom lid and replacing that with the toggle bottom, you don´t have the slide lock function anymore. The Rally is secured directly on the handlebar with one bolt, so it´s still easy and very quick to move from bike to bike, but you have to install it straight on the handlebar.

For roadbook riders, you can either set up the controller´s Profile 2 to open your preferred roadbook app, or set up Piste controller to work with the buttons in Profile 1. It works smoother in Profile 2 than in 1, because there are no button delays.

Fault finding

If nothing works or the controller does not do what you expect it to:

  • Is the Accessibillity service active. Check front page of app

  • Is the controller connected but nothing happens, check that you are in Profile 1 with click hold Arrow Up once or twice until it blinks green once.

  • Is the controller connected at all. If not, reconnect bluetooth

  • You cannot see the controller in the bluetootg connectionss: Could it be connected to another phone or tablet. Either disconnect it there, or reset controller and reconnect as described below .

  • Is the controller connected and set to profile One but no response. Reset controller by holding keys Arrow up, Minus and Plus in at the same time about 5 seconds until it blinks green and red. The controller will start up again and be set in Profile 1. You need to reconnect it over bluetooth and check that accessibility services is on.

Good luck, and feedback is essential for us. Send us a mail at feedback@remotek.no.
